Living the Inspired Life: Recreation and Fun in and Around Kansas City

May 13, 2025

At Inspired Homes, we understand that a home isn’t just about the walls that surround you—it’s about the life you’re building just outside your front door. Whether you already live in the area or are looking to relocate to Kansas City in the near future, we build in some of the metro’s most vibrant, active and welcoming communities to help you feel right at home from day one.

Outdoor Escapes and Natural Beauty

For those who crave time in nature, Kansas City offers no shortage of green space, wooded trails and peaceful waterside escapes. Lake Olathe, Longview Lake and the Missouri River provide the perfect backdrop for boating, kayaking, fishing or simply enjoying a sunrise with a cup of coffee. Parks like Legacy Park in Lee’s Summit and the sprawling Overland Park Arboretum also give you plenty of space to roam, relax and recharge, while hidden gems like the Parkville Nature Sanctuary and Platte Falls Conservation Area make weekend hikes feel like quiet retreats without straying too far from home.

If you prefer a scenic walk or bike ride, the Line Creek Trail and Little Blue Valley Trail wind through neighborhoods and nature, connecting you to playgrounds, creeks and plenty of shaded rest stops along the way. Whether you’re breaking a sweat or just strolling with the dog, there’s always a beautiful spot nearby to stretch your legs.

Kid-Friendly Favorites

Living near Kansas City means never having to search far for things to do with kids. Whether it’s seeing all of the animals at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead in Overland Park, splashing through the spraygrounds at Lake Olathe Park or exploring the new exhibits at the Ernie Miller Nature Center in Olathe, your weekends will never feel short on memory-making moments.

For a more immersive experience, the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium delivers a full day of fun and learning, while Science City at Union Station invites kids to explore, build and imagine through hands-on exhibits. And don’t forget about the annual festivals, parades and community events that pop up in nearly every suburb.

Cultural Exploration and Local Flavor

Kansas City’s vibrant arts and culture scene is right at your fingertips when you live in its surrounding communities. The Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts hosts everything from ballets to symphony performances, while the Crossroads Arts District is a haven for gallery walks, street murals and local markets. History lovers can also explore Union Station or the National WWI Museum and Memorial

If you’re a foodie, you’ll feel right at home in this area as Kansas City’s culinary scene extends well beyond barbeque—though there’s plenty of that, too. You’ll find cozy brunch spots in Lee’s Summit, upscale dining in Overland Park and quaint patios in Riverside where you can toast to the weekend with friends.

Active Lifestyles and Sports Enthusiasts

Whether you’re a spectator or a participant, Kansas City keeps your calendar full of sports and fitness opportunities. Chiefs and Royals games at Arrowhead Stadium and Kauffman Stadium turn regular days into community-wide celebrations, and Sporting KC brings world-class soccer to the heartland.

If you’re more into playing than watching, you'll find golf courses, tennis courts and recreation centers across every suburb. Overland Park and Olathe are known for their well-maintained public golf courses, while spots like Topgolf in Overland Park and Chicken N Pickle in both Overland Park and North Kansas City offer social ways to stay active—even in colder months.

At Inspired Homes, we build in communities that give you access to all this and more. Whether you’re kayaking at Lake Olathe, cheering on the Chiefs, hiking the trails near Platte City or simply relaxing on your front porch after a day downtown, life in and around Kansas City offers the perfect blend of recreation, connection and comfort. The build process was exciting. I was able to choose absolutely all my finishes, which many other builders weren't allowing if foundation or framing was done. Upgrades were easy to select and there were some great options that didn't break the bank. All the materials were excellent quality and our finished home is beautiful.
